  • Why do I have to get tested for Covid-19 so often?
Santa Clara Public Health, with guidance from CDPH and CDC, have made it a requirement that skilled nursing facilities like San Tomas must perform response-driven testing. *Response-Driven testing: This is done in response to an "outbreak" in the facility. An outbreak means that there is one or more confirmed positive Covid-19 cases in a resident or staff OR if there are three staff and/or residents that have Covid-19 signs and symptoms within a 72-hour period. In this case, ALL staff and ALL residents are tested as soon as possible after an outbreak is identified. After this initial testing, all staff and all residents are tested every 3 to 7 days or as directed by Santa Clara Public Health. Response-driven testing is completed when there are no new positive resident cases over a span of 14 days. When this is achieved, testing goes back to an "as needed" basis. ALWAYS REMEMBER: You are getting tested to protect yourself, your families, our residents, and each other. Testing is just a way to detect Covid-19, but it does not prevent it! Remember HAND HYGIENE, SOCIAL DISTANCING, UNIVERSAL MASKING, and PROPER PPE USE at work AND outside of work. We are all working together to fight this virus!
